Flowers and Trees (1932)
Before its release, Flowers and Trees was originally supposed to be a black and white film cartoon. However, Walt Disney saw Herbert Kalmus' three-strip Technicolor process. Disney wanting to see the Technicolor process in action, decided to scrape the black and white and replace it with the three-strip Technicolor. Thus, Flowers and Trees was the first animated film in three-strip Technicolor. [3]
Flowers and Trees was such a commercial success, it won the first Academy Award for Animated Short Subjects. It was major for that time since the "short subjects" category was just introduced into the Awards nominations. [4] |
